Featured projects
Photography is about sharing a vision of world through the lens of a camera. I gravitate to natural subjects and find birds, bugs, and blooms interesting. Everywhere I look though, I see images worth capturing. I hope you will enjoy some of my favorites on this site.
Birds and bugs bring life to the air that surrounds us. Movement and color fill the emptiness and the sound of song lifts the spirits. The gentle buzz of insects reminds us that we are part of something larger, sometimes hidden, but still heard.
Birds abound - for now. Studies show that the population of birds has been radically reduced in the last few years. The reasons are many, but most center around the destruction of the environment that once sustained them. I photograph birds to remind us that a beautiful part of nature is in peril.
Most photographs whether wide vistas or intimate portraits are taken with the perspective of our normal sight. Macro and close up photos are meant to get even closer. This can reveal fascinating details the human eye misses. To get really close often requires specialized tools and techniques. It's an area I am beginning to explore in greater depth.
Even in the midst of cities, there can be pockets of beauty. One of my favorite places is the Dallas Arboritum. On the shores of White Rock Lake, this manicured oasis has year-round appeal. Throughout the year there are special events that are meant to engage adn inspire.
My projects
On occasion, I delve a little deeper into a specific project. Sometimes it's a special event or place , and sometimes just a particular type of subject such as hummingbirds.
Some of the smallest species among birds, the hummingbirds hold some unique distinctions. They can hover and fly backwards which is essential for feeding off their favorite foods - flower nectar and pollen. They also have iridescent plumage making them what some call the jewels of the air.

On occasion, I delve a little deeper into a specific area of interest. Sometimes it's a special event or place, and sometimes just a particular type of subject such as County Courthouses. Most are works in progress.
There are many different kinds of Iris's. Many of the hybrids are facinating in their color and detail. We grow a number of varieties and I present several here. More will come as they grow and bloom.
There are 254 counties in the State of Texas. In each there is a county seat formed by a courthouse. In some cases these courthouses date back to the founding of the Republic of Texas. Many have been destroyed and rebuilt. And many are beautiful works of art and architecture. I am just beging to explore those that surround me.
In 2021, the Dallas Arboritum held a second edition of the ZimSculpt exhibition featuring artists from Africa. Here is a collection of images taken during that showing.
